Midnight is the patriarch of some of the most athletic horses in the breed. The Midnight strain not only produced Midnight Jr and Grey Badger II but is in the background of Peppy San Badger, Two Eyed Jack and Easy Jet. His dam Nellie Trammell had a club foot but on soft ground could beat the best horses around. They added that she would buck you off about half the time.
Midnight raced for several years with witnesses attesting to him running 33 second times at 3/8 of a mile.
He didn't nick too well with the Waggoner mares so they sold him to Charlie Goodnight's old ranch, the JA, up in the Texas Panhandle. There he sired ranch horses that were known to be fast and smart but also with a tendancy to buck.
When he got too old for pasture breeding, he ended up sold to Aubra Bowers who had bought a ranch south of Allison, Texas and struck it rich in oil. He got two crops of foals from the old horse.
